Victorian brooch featuring a pair of cherubs; the left cherub writes or paints while the right cherub holds a string connecting to a butterfly in flight. The image is beautifully hand painted on natural material, set in sterling silver frame with vermeil accents. The painting is protected on reverse by a panel of unknown metal composition; original c-clasp pin closure.
Size: 2 1/4 inches long by 7/8 of an inch wide.
Materials: sterling silver, 2 seed pearls, natural wafer, gold accents, unknown metal backing.
Marks: Three illegible hallmarks on reverse - 1 on the pin, and 2 on side of c-clasp, suspected French origin.
Condition Notes: Excellent. The painting has no wear or water damage, all colors are vibrant. The glass has a few light scratches but no nicks, chips, or cracks. Seed pearls are intact and original with minor nacre wear. The sterling silver frame has tarnished to a consistent colour. Pin wiggles as often found in antique brooches, but remains secure in c-clasp. Beautiful patina has been left intact.
