This special antique brooch was hand constructed by inlaying a mother of pearl panel in a tortoise shell frame upon a silver backing. The original early c-clasp and pin stem are made of steel, as typical to ensure strength when piercing thick garments. This brooch is a fascinating example of early jewelry construction - the jewelers nails holding the piece together can be observed.
