This is an antique Norwegian brooch known as a "Solje". Traditionally made of silver with dangling reflective "spoons" of silver or gold, they were given to babies and brides. The reflective "spoons" protected against bad luck and evil spirits by deflecting them away.
This lovely, unpolished example is made of 830 silver & the spoons dipped in gold. Original c-clasp in perfect working condition.
